Which are the main public hospitals in Ibadan?
University College Hospital (UCH) on Queen Elizabeth Road is Ibadan's federal teaching hospital, with over 30 wards and more than 800 beds, according to the hospital.
UCH was established by an Act of Parliament in November 1952 and formally commissioned in November 1957, its service charter says. Its main lines, 08131733447 and 08131734161, are listed as open 24 hours.
Oyo State's secondary hospitals are run by the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board. They include Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital in Yemetu, where a new emergency children's ward opened in May 2026, and Ring Road State Hospital, whose psychiatric unit reopened in April 2025.
Not every area has a general hospital: a January 2025 motion in the Oyo State House of Assembly said six local government areas, including Ibadan South East, Ido and Ona Ara, had none.

How does a first visit to UCH work?
Patients with a referral letter go to the clinic they were referred to; patients without one go to the Family Medicine Department for an initial assessment and onward referral if needed, UCH says.
First-time patients register and pay at the Central Health Records Department and are given a case file. Follow-up patients bring their blue appointment card and are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes before their appointment time.
On admission, fees are paid at a pay point, and UCH offers a Fixed Admission Deposit facility to cover care for a set period. Visiting hours are 11am to 12 noon and 5pm to 6pm, with two visitors per patient, food from home is not allowed, and meal tickets are part of the entry fees.
